Whether you are planning a beach holiday, activity holiday, walking holiday or a mixutre of all three, there is something for everyone in the South Hams.
If walking is what you are after then take in the stunning local scenery with a walk along the nearby National Trust Coast Path. There are so many walks to choose from, and all of them have something special to offer. Or, if you want a bit more action in your day, you can find water sports available through groups such as Sea N Shore, the Island Cruising Club, Salcombe Yacht Club and South Sands Sailing. Boat Trips
A trip to the South Hams isn't complete without taking to the water at some point during your stay. If you don't have, or don't want to hire your own boat there are lots of trips available. The Salcombe-Kingsbridge Rivermaid offers a wonderful scenic cruise along the estuary between Kingsbridge and Salcombe and runs from Easter to October. The South Sands Ferry is a fun way of travelling from Salcombe town (Whitestrand) to South Sands where there is a fabulous hotel where you can have breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea or dinner overlooking the beach.
Eating and drinking out
There are so many pubs & restaurants in Salcombe town. For families Captain Flint's or the Island Street Bar & Grill are firm favourites, and who can beat the Winking Prawn at North Sands for the best breakfast in town. Popping out for a drink? The Kings Arms at Whitestrand is always good for a bite to eat and a few beers as is the Victoria Inn, which also has a great childrens play area at the back. The Ferry Inn is very popular for a drink on your way back over via the passenger ferry from the beaches of East Portlemouth and the lively Fortescue Inn is also a popular choice.
For something a bit more special try the South Sands Hotel which has an excellent resturant with a wonderful terrace overlooking South Sands beach. If you want to go slightly further afield The Tower Inn in Slapton is excellent and has a lovely garden overlooking the tower at the rear and The Cricket Inn at Beesands is located right on the beach overlooking Start Bay and has fabulous sea food, its the perfect pub to go to after a walk round Start Point and a trip to Start Point Lighthouse.
